Mellos is a voice of reason amidst the more crafty and calculating members of the King’s court. Mellos is played by David Horovitch, an actor you may recognize from the films Young Victoria, Cassandra’s Dream, and the live-action 102 Dalmatians. Aegon was Viserys and Alicent's first child together, making him the heir to Viserys' throne in many people's eyes. However, he is seemingly indifferent to his responsibilities, preferring instead to drink and harass women working in the castle. He tried to flee King's Landing before he was crowned the new King by Otto and Alicent.

Princess Rhaenyra is the daughter of King Viserys, who hopes to become the first queen of the Seven Kingdoms when her father's reign ends. However, tradition dictates that only a male may rule, so it could prove difficult to get the Lords of Westeros to back this idea. Rhaenyra begins the series as a close friend of Lady Alicent Hightower, but the politics of the day will test their friendship. Like Otto Hightower, Grand Maester Mellos is a trusted adviser to King Viserys.

"Luke", as he was known, rode Arrax, though both met their doom at the hands (and teeth) of Aemond and his dragon, Vhagar, in the series finale. Tom Glynn-Carney fills out the cast as Aegon Targaryen, the first-born son of King Viserys, together with Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, the second-born son of Viserys, nephew to Daemon, and half-brother to Rhaenyra. Ryan Corr will be playing Ser Harwin 'Breakbones' Strong, a character who is "said to be the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms". Harwin is the eldest son of Lyonel Strong, portrayed by Gavin Spokes, and heir to the largest castle in Westeros, Harrenhal.

He's also Rhaenyra's biggest challenge to the throne as Viserys' firstborn son. The patriarch of House Strong of Harrenhal, Lord Strong serves as the Master of Laws of King Viserys' council. He gives the king wise advice on matters, and later assumes the role of Hand of the King after Lord Hightower loses his position.

Milly Alcock was the first actress to play Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, playing the youthful princess prior to the huge 10-year time jump that came with the start of Season 1, Episode 6.
